The Dog Days

The “dog days of summer” is a line that always crosses my mind this time of year. Everything in my life has come to a halt, my yoga practice, my writing practice and I find myself taking in the smell of lilacs and the sounds of children playing. I need to stop the “shoulds” at this time of year and begin using my “coulds”. This is the time of year that poetry is lived. This is the time of year for family yoga and vacation yoga. If you find yourself being hard on yourself for being less than you imagine is productive, give yourself a pat on the back. This is exactly where you should be at this time of year. We still have natural rhythms despite our constant connection with the internet, and those natural rhythms deserve to be honoured. Today, I invite you to rest, give up the to-do list and take it all in. The writing will come…
