About Samantha

The Writer’s Midwife a.k.a. Samantha Baldwin began her journey after having a spontaneous unassisted home birth of her beautiful daughter after being misdiagnosed as having a fungal infection in her uterus when she was just twenty years old. She became impassioned with all things birth and took her doula birth and post-partum training in 2003. She furthered her education be beginning a Psychology degree through Athabasca University at Mount Royal College.

Writing has always been in her blood and she won “awards” (praise) from all of her elementary school teachers. After a few bumps (criticism) on the road to writing she began to only keep writing for herself. That was, until third year Psychology and a poem that leaked to her Professor, then to Governor General award winning author Austin Clarke and she was adopted by the head of the creative writing department, Richard Harrison. She switched to an English degree the following year and graduated with honours in 2013.

She has since gone on to have her poems published in Freefall Magazine (Volume XXIV Number 1 Winter 2014) and at blueskiespoetry.ca.
